Carmen Herrero is a Full Professor of Foundations of the Economic Analysis at the University of Alicante. She received the Premio Jaime I de Economía prize in 2017 due to her academical contributions, that are mainly based on the implicit concern about social problems, specially equity related problems. In 2014 she was honored with an Honoris Causa Ph. D. by the University of Granada. She has made a great effort for the implementation of academic standards and the management of research programs. She has taken part in the research management of many key instances such as the FECYT, the Ramón y Cajal program and the ANEP. Her role in the creation and consolidation of the Foundations of Economic Analysis Department at the University of Alicante, in collaboration with Antonio Villar, Luis Corchón and Fernando Vega-Redondo is also remarkable. This department is internationally well-known.
